Keep Them in the Room: The Founder's Art Basel Playbook

How curated spaces, design details, and energy of Miami Art Week reveal a blueprint for building products that hold attention and earn loyalty.

Did it briefly feel like Miami turned into a canvas of aesthetics at every glance? Art Basel will do that, turning the city into a moodboard of art, excitement, technology and capital that somehow begins to speak the same language. The language of art, captivating, as each piece tells a different story. Events, installations, pop up experiences all around the city surrounded by curious observers and attendees absorbing all that is Art Basel.

Welcome to Miami Art Week, where people come from all over the world revel in the art world, discover, network, and make connections beyond the canvas. Art Basel week is where taste, technology and opportunities to discover, network and build connections happen. It’s where two founders may meet for the first time, realizing that their objectives are deeply aligned and form a partnership. Or where creative inspiration draws upon connecting the dots between a painting and protocol, while ideating on a product that hasn’t been built yet. This is the potential that exists in inspiration.

Walking through the galleries of Art Basel and Design Miami, surrounded by interiors with so much detail and precision; parallels a founder’s journey. Because without the details, there’s no story. The message isn’t shouted it’s intricately designed into the coffee table reminding me of Gaudi’s art, or the post modern couch that’s so unique, you even do a third look. As a creator, founder or an entrepreneur on their path, you think about the story surrounding your own product or brand; and what it may feel like for someone to walk through it.

Giving people a clear intentional experience is keen on success. If you examine your own product, would it fit into rooms where people would actually want to stay, and maybe even do a fourth look? Part of market success is the “staying” part, the participation, and the anticipation of what’s next. Design Miami reminded me that design is not just how something looks, rather it’s how it guides you. Quietly, Confidently, Consistently to where you want to be.
